Championship Week Power Lines and Picks

We have 10 games this week. Power lines still mean something but they don’t mean everything. Going to switch things up a bit this week and give the power line and a pick (if I like a side).

#5 Utah -6.5 vs. #13 Oregon
SSA power line is Utah -1.5. Utah is playing well but hasn’t beaten anyone. Oregon looks good at time and bad at times. If you’re going to make a play on this game try to get Oregon +7 but at 6.5 I don’t like either side

#7 Baylor vs. #6 Oklahoma -8.5
The SSA power line on this game is OU -7. Oklahoma has done nothing in the second half of the season to justify being an 8.5 point favorite in this game. But with that being said I wouldn’t be surprised if they win by 14. I don’t like either side in this matchup.

Louisiana +6 at #21 App St
The SSA power line on this game is Louisiana +2. App won earlier this season in this matchup on the road 17-7. Since then the Louisiana offense has been on a tear. Expect a lot more points in this game and expect a Louisiana cover. Ragin’ Cajuns +6

Miami OH vs. Central Michigan -6.5
First year head coach Jim McElwain has this Central Michigan offense humming. Meanwhile Miami OH lost by 14 to Ball State last weekend. Two very different teams playing in the MAC championship game. While the power number is pick ’em I think Central Michigan rolls. Chippewas -6.5

UAB at Florida Atlantic -7.5
Florida Atlantic is the best team in Conference USA. UAB is a middle of the road squad. Makes sense why the power line is FAU -12. But the Lane Kiffin coaching search has me wondering how focused FAU will be in this game. I’d stay away from this number.

#20 Cincinnati at #17 Memphis -9.5
Both teams have had good seasons and the power line on this game is Memphis -5.5. But Memphis won this game last week by 10 and I expect more of the same. No value on either side at 9.5 here.

#4 Georgia +7 vs #2 LSU
Georgia has what is probably the best defense in the country. Our power line has the Bulldogs +3. This number has ballooned all the way up to 7. Too many points for a national championship caliber defense. Dawgs +7

Hawaii at #19 Boise State -14
Not surprisingly, Boise State rolled Hawaii in the regular season 59-37. The power line on this is Boise State -15. Hawaii has been playing well as of late and will likely utilize the QB run game which will grind some clock. I think Vegas nailed this number as neither side is attractive in this one.

#23 Virginia vs #3 Clemson -28
While Virginia has played well this year, UVA sits at #28 in our power rankings. The power line on this game is Clemson -28. However, Clemson stops trying against most teams in the 2nd half. They won’t let up at all in this one and will destroy UVA. Clemson -28

#1 Ohio State vs. #8 Wisconsin
The Badgers got embarrassed in Columbus earlier this season 38-7. What’s changed since then? Not a whole lot. Power line is Ohio State -14 but power numbers don’t mean much as Ohio State has taken their foot off the pedal in many games this season. The Buckeyes have the will to beat ass and smash Wisconsin like they did in the 2014 conference title game (anyone remember that 59-0 games?). Ohio State -16.5
