Last week was our first losing week since week 5 of the season and that was the result of some bad breaks. This week there are a lot of cupcake games (I’m looking at you SEC) which is narrowing the selection of games for me that I want to get involved in. There is still some value out there though and we will try to fine some for you!
Wake Forrest +7 vs. Pittsburgh
Wake is coming off a very impressive win last week against NC State and are taking on a Pitt team that actually is currently in line for a trip to face Clemson in the ACC championship game. Pitt has been running the ball well lately but this is way too many points on the road here in what I think should be a FG game. I’ll back the home dog who I think can potentially take this one outright.
Minnesota ML vs. Northwestern
This is both a great matchup and a great spot for Minnesota. They catch Northwestern coming off a division clinching upset road win against Iowa last week. While Northwestern is sitting here fat and happy, Minnesota needs to win out to make a bowl. In addition, Minnesota has been running the ball great lately and Northwestern has really overachieved according to our metrics this year so I will back the Gophers to win this one outright.
Wisconsin +5 at Purdue
Our SSA line has this game as a pickem and I really like what the badgers have done on the ground this year with that solid rushing attack. It also should be some pretty harsh weather conditions for this one so getting points with the running team will be the difference in a close game that comes down to the wire.
Virginia +7 (buy hook) at Georgia Tech
Bronco Mendenhal’s squads have always done well against the option going back to his days at BYU. This Virginia team has also sprouted a stout run defense this year and I expect that to continue here against the triple option of the Yellow Jackets. Offensively Virginia hasn’t been great this year but I think they get just enough plays here to keep it within the number.
Vanderbilt -2.5 vs. Ole Miss
Coach Mason gets the boys fired up for this one as Vanderbilt desperately needs a win if they want to make a bowl. Ole Miss’ defense is terrible and Vandy should be able to put up points in this one. Additionally, Ole Miss’ QB, running back, and top 2 WRs are all banged up and the normally stellar Rebel offense will not be at full strength. I’ll take the Commodores to win this one at home and cover the number.
