A great week last week as we went 3-1 on our picks with some dogs really showing some bite. It’s already halfway through the season and there are still some teams who haven’t really been tested. With several big matchups this week we will begin to see the playoff picture take shape. Now let’s get some winners!
Duke +3 vs. Georgia Tech
As mentioned on this week’s podcast, Duke has been excellent at preparing for the triple option and now coming off a bye they have had extra time to make sure they have it covered. Georgia Tech is getting some respect for crushing a pretty bad Louisville team last week but they still haven’t been very good this year. I like the Blue Devils to take this one but we will take the 3 points for good measure.
Washington -3 vs. Oregon
Oregon has been a very inconsistent team this year looking great one quarter then average the next. You need to look no further than the Stanford game for evidence of this and now they take on a Husky team that is solid. I like Washington to control the clock with the run game then hit some big plays over the top with play action. I’ll go with the more balanced Washington to cover.
Iowa St. +7 (buy the hook)
Iowa state came through last week with a big win against Oklahoma State on the road and returns home to play another tough opponent in West Virginia. This Mountaineers team goes as their top QB Will Grier goes but he faces an underrated Cyclones team that I think has enough in the tank to slow them down for the cover. Also, don’t sleep on the freshman QB Brock Purdy from Iowa state who had a huge game last week and will once again get the start.
Air Force +10.5 vs. San Diego State
Historically this has been a close game when Air Forces heads out to take on the Aztecs and I this year will be no different. The Aztecs have a great defense and showed it last week against Boise State upsetting the Broncos on their blue turf. Both of these teams have a slow methodical offense so points will be at a premium and although I think that SDSU takes this it should be close enough to cover the number.
Virginia Tech -5.5 vs. UNC
The Hokies got smashed last week against Notre Dame but now take a big step down in talent taking on a UNC team that has been an absolute mess this year. I was high on the Tarheels to start the season but now after having backed them a few times I really think coach Fedora will be looking for a new job next year. I’ll take the Hokies to cover the number here and put an end to any chance of UNC salvaging their season.
Florida -7 vs. Vanderbilt
Florida had a huge win last week against LSU and I think this number is a bit short as folks are excepting a letdown game after that win. I still like the team with better talent here as our SSA number makes this almost a 2 TD game so I’ll overlook the potential letdown spot and roll with the Gators here to cover.
