Bulldog Dave’s Week 5 College Football Picks

We had a nice winning week this last week so let’s try to keep this baby rolling with another good week!

Army +7.5 at Buffalo
Buffalo showed that they have the players this year and went on the road and handle Rutgers. Even though Rutgers can hardly be classified as a P5 team, it was still a convincing win for Buffalo.  Now they head home to take on an Army team that can be tough to prepare for with their unique triple option offense.  Historically this matchup has been very close and I see this year not being much different.  I’ll roll with the Black Knights here and I would sprinkle a little on the money line as I think they have a chance to win this on the field as well.

Pitt +14 at UCF
UCF is coming off a nice win against Lane Kiffin’s FAU squad but now they must take on a P5 team with much more talent. Pitt lost last week in a game I actually faded them on which paid off. However, they did look better than I expected and it was fairly close until the fourth quarter.  I think Pitt has the offense here to keep this within two touchdowns in what I fully expect to be a high scoring affair.

USC -3 at Arizona
This will be the second week in a row I fade my alma matter but I am just not liking what I am seeing from the Wildcats this year.  Tate doesn’t look right and isn’t running nearly as well here as he did last year.  Arizona is calling way too many passing plays for my taste and without the personnel to run Sumlin’s air raid offense yet, they will have issues matching up against the type of talent that USC brings to the table.  Meanwhile, USC seemed to finally turn the corner as the freshman QB is starting to settle into his role in the offense.  I think USC pulls away late here and covers the number.

BC -13.5 vs. Temple
BC was feeling themselves a little too much last week and had really hit them in the face as Purdue ran up the score on this Eagles team.  Losing that game though probably did them some good as they realize they can’t take any team for granted and will come into this matchup with Temple focused.  Meanwhile, Temple has been very inconsistent losing to FCS Villanova but then smashing a solid Maryland team on the road.  I have not been very impressed with Temple this year and last week they got lucky as they could have easily lost if it wasn’t for Tulsa turning the ball over 5 times.  I like BC to come out hungry here and lay a beat down on Temple.

Florida +7.5 at Mississippi State
Dan Mullen heads back to Starkville to take on his old squad in what promises to be a very good matchup.  Mississippi State is coming off of a tough loss to Kentucky and showed that maybe there was a little too much hype for this Bulldogs team to start the year.  The Gators have the advantage with better recruits and a coach that knows this team inside and out plus they are getting over a TD.  I’ll roll with the Gators here to keep it close and cover.

Texas Tech +3.5 vs. West Virginia
West Virginia’s Will Grier continues to impress and show why he will end up as a first-round NFL pick in the coming draft. However, Texas Tech’s offense is also no slouch putting up another year of crazy numbers through the air.  You can expect some big points in this big time shootout and I think tech keeps this one close with a good shot to hand the Mountaineers there first loss of the season.
