It’s week 3 and we are getting into conference play where teams are acquainted with their opponents. Also, keep your eye on Hurricane Florence as it will impact both what games are played and the conditions of the games played on the East Coast. Rain and wind benefit rushing teams so look for teams that can pound the rock to get some value on those east coast clashes.
Army – 6.5 vs. Hawaii
At first glance, this line may seem off to you as Hawaii has been the toast of the first few weeks of the college football season. The Rainbow Warriors are averaging 48 points per game over their first three games. Now facing a second triple option team in the past 2 weeks I normally would look to back the team with familiarity against this type of unique offense. However, Hawaii has to travel 6 time zones in what amounts to be a be a 6am local kick for them. It’s crazy to think Hawaii players will be in the same kind of mental state playing a football game so early in the morning so I like Army here to finally slow down this Rainbow Warrior offense and cover.
Rutgers +3 at Kansas
Kansas got there first road win against a D1 team in over a year and props to them for that. However, it seems that win is getting them some undo respect as I don’t feel they should be giving points to any P5 program and although Rutgers doesn’t have the talent that some of the other B10 schools have, they still can run the ball and play some defense. I like them to cover and they have a very good chance to take this one outright.
Florida -20 vs. Colorado State
Colorado State got a huge upset win last week again Arkansas at home but have not looked good for most of the year so far. Now they have to go on the road against a Florida team that was just embarrassed by Kentucky at home. The Gators should come out angry here looking for blood and I like them to take out last week’s frustration on this hapless Rams squad who will serve as a sacrifice on the the alter this week to the Florida faithful.
Massachusetts +4 at FIU
This Umass squad showed some firepower in the first game before coming down to earth in their last 2 games. However, I am still a believer in their offense. Meanwhile, I have not been impressed with Butch Davis’s FIU squad this year as I think they have regressed from last years team. I like the Minutemen to keep this one close.
Notre Dame -13.5 vs. Vanderbilt
Vandy has had 2 big wins to start the season out 2-0 ATS but now they have a big step up in class here facing a Notre Dame squad off a less than stellar performance against Ball State. I like Notre Dame to right the ship here and put up some big numbers on the Commodore defense that has not yet seen a run game close to this quality yet.
