Bulldog Dave’s Week 1 CFB Plays

College Football Kickoff week is finally upon us!  With a full slate of amazing games there are a lot of interesting match-ups to choose from and we have zeroed in on the games that provide the best value:

Auburn (+7.5) vs. Clemson

These teams are a lot closer than many people think,  our SSA Recruiting rankings have Auburn at 7 and Clemson at 11.  So you are getting a fairly even matchup in terms of talent plus home field and 7.5 points.  I see this being a very competitive game going into the 4th with Auburn having a chance for the upset, take Auburn with the points.

Oregon State (+13) at Minnesota

Once again here you get a fairly even talent matchup (54 vs. 57) while catching double digits.  Minnesota isn’t the type of team to blow a P5 team out and I think they win but OSU stays within the number here.

Wake Forrest (-17) vs. Tulane

Tulane is going to struggle here with a brand new offense switching to the triple option and a whole new coaching staff.  Meanwhile ,Wake should be much improved with 16 returning starters and coach Clawson going into his 3rd year.  Lay the points here with Wake.

Colorado (-7 buy hook) vs. Colorado State

I am fairly high on Colorado this year with 18 returning starters this year and a very solid Sr QB in Sefo Liufau meanwhile this should be a rebuilding year with CSU.  Colorado also has a talent advantage in this matchup which will take place on a neutral field in Denver.  Buy the hook here an lay the 7 with the Buffs.

LSU (-10) vs. Wisconsin

LSU has a sizable talent advantage in this content with the  #3 vs. #32 SSA RR split.  I expect to see similar results to Alabama’s beating last year on the Badgers where they won the contest 35-17.  The game is in Green Bay so the homefield won’t be as big as if the game was in Madison.  Go ahead and lay the points with the Tigers.

Kansas State (+15.5) vs. Stanford

Stanford is coming off a great year this year but I see them taking a little step back ATS this year and facing The Wizard in week one is going to be a big challenge.  Kansas State should be able to keep this game close and stay within the number here.  Back Bill Snyder and don’t look back!

Vanderbilt (-4) vs. South Carolina

South Carolina is in for a rough year this year as they have a brand new coaching staff and are most likely starting a Freshman at QB.  I look for him to struggle against this stingy Vandy defense and see the Commodores coming away with the cover here.  I’ll lay the points with Vandy.

If you’re looking fore greater detail on these matchups, we’ve got it. Listen to the CFB Week 1 Podcast that features myself and Jmoney.
